David Bloom is a first time author whose life has mostly been an adventure in music. From spinning his father’s 78 rpm collection of Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Schubert, Rossini etc., while still in diapers, to singing harmonies and learning guitar chords at five and then four years of piano lessons from the age of eight.
Writing songs on the guitar at fifteen, David then started writing songs on the piano after hearing Laura Nyro’s recordings. This led to being offered a recording contract when he was sixteen from Doug Weston, owner of The Troubadour in Los Angeles, to record for his fledgling label, Troubadour Records. Hearing, and heeding, the advice to not sign the contract from Glen Frey and J.D. Souther, who were signed to Weston before the formation of The Eagles, was one of the first of many close encounters with some of his favorite recording artists, record producers, and singer-songwriters at auspicious and interesting moments in modern musical history.
Some occurred at The Troubadour and at The Great American Food & Beverage Co. in Santa Monica, California where he worked first as a busboy then a waiter with occasional time off for good behavior, here and then there, to play in two different bands with Link Wray.
David was a co-founder and co-owner, with Richard Barron, of Boulevard Sound, a recording studio located in the first commercial building built in Hollywood.
His first book is part memoir and part recollection of life lessons and human equations learned from his mentor, Frances Ring, a psychologist who used hypnosis for healing and positive purposes in her practice.
As a young musician, David Bloom stepped into a bustling Hollywood studio and knew his life would revolve around music. From recording sessions to live performances, he worked with legends and learned the craft from the ground up.
Now an author, David brings those experiences to readers. His first book shares the teachings of Frances Ring, offering clarity and guidance, while his second, How To Live A Rotten Sex Life, presents life lessons with honesty and humor. Based between California and Merida, Mexico, David blends music, storytelling, and reflection to create work that resonates, entertains, and inspires.
